Stratcon Risk recovered a vehicle more than seven hours after it had been stolen from a car dealership in Secunda.
The car was found in Gauteng.
Mr Jacques Alberts from Stratcon Risk, told the newspaper how they came to be contacted by the dealership.
United Motors Secunda realised the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day and because some of their employees are members of the Secunda 911 Assist Zello channel, they knew about the type of work that Stratcon Risk does.
“We were contacted and though the car was still unregistered and did not have a tracking device installed, they were able to establish a connection with the car through the Mercedes Me vehicle locator system.”
Mr Ignus van der Berg explained this system is actually only supposed to connect the driver with his vehicle and help with an interactive experience.
“The Mercedes Me system has a function to call for help if needed, but it is used more as a daily vehicle locator, not as a long distance vehicle tracking device.”
Nevertheless, the system was activated and the vehicle was found near Nigel.
