Police officers and members from the community policing forum, the Youth Desk, the drug action committee, Thomas-Heights ambassadors and the Department of Social Development conducted school safety campaigns at various schools.
These included eNkundleni Combined School, Laerskool HM Swart Primary, Laerskool Marietjie van Niekerk and Jim van Tonderskool.
Const Thomas Mogadime, police spokesman, said the purpose of the campaign was to teach learners about abductions, the killing of young girls in the country and the dangers of using drugs.
“The safety of the learners is our priority and as members of the SAPS, we cannot do everything by ourselves.
“We therefore request others to join us in fighting any form of crime.
“I would like to thank all stakeholders involved for their hard work and dedication towards creating a safer learning environment for learners.”
During the campaign, Const Mogadime and members from the Youth Desk performed a short play about a child being abducted in front of his parent at a park.
Mr King South Africa 2017 finalist, Calvin Nkosi, warned learners to not be deceived by strangers and gave tips on how to avoid being abducted.
Gift Maseko, Mr Thomas-Heights 2016 and member from the Youth Desk, told learners how to behave at school and at home and how to handle peer pressure.
