After the shootout occurred on the Bethal Road on 29 June, five suspects who presumably are connected with the transit heist, were arrested in Tembisa, Johannesburg later the same day.
According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, they appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 5 July and were formally charged with armed robbery.
The case was postponed to 19 July.
The shootout on 29 June left two people wounded and two police officers were admitted to hospital.
No other injuries or fatalities were reported.
The initial five suspects that were arrested were cleared and released and apparently it was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
