eMBALENHLE – A legal march was disrupted by a group of men who allegedly threatened to beat and shoot the conveners of the march in the presence of the police.
Fearing for their safety and the safety of the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs official who was supposed to receive the memorandum, the conveners arranged that the handover of the memorandum be done at the Secunda Police Station.
According to Mr Mandla Mbatha, deputy convener, the group of men are very violent and at night they were with the police and intimidated the organisers of the march and other people believed to be involved in the march.
He was pleased that despite the victimisation, Cogta deployed someone to receive the memorandum.
In the memorandum the marchers are demanding the recall of the executive mayor, Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, and one of the mayoral committee members.
They also expressed their dissatisfaction with service delivery in the area, youth empowerment and business people who are friends with some of the local top politicians.
The memorandum was received by Mr Sifiso Nxumalo from Cogta at the Secunda Police Station.
