[BREAKING NEWS] Protesters shut down the R50 Road over unfulfilled job promises
Ext 8 residents say: “no jobs, no passing through.”
Dark smoke filled the air on 12 July as angry Ext 8 residents used burning tyres to block the R50 Road to Leandra, in demand of jobs.
Ms Mirriam Kuputsa of the National Civic Organisation ((Sanco) questioned the situation where locals allegedly suffer while people from other towns benefit from job opportunities.
The protesters threatened employees of Clear Choice Builders who is responsible for the upgrades at the Department of Correctional Services.
They tried to make their way inside the premises.
“This is not a community project, but a national project,” Mr Thokozani Sithathu, employee of the company, said.
