Firefighters’ pelted with stones by eMbalenhle residents when they responded to a fire

Govan Mbeki Municipality urge people to refrain from attacking firefighters.

Govan Mbeki Municipality said they are concerned about the rising number of attacks on firefighters.

Residents pelted firefighters with stones when they were responding to a fire caused by an electricity transformer in Ext 22 in eMbalenhle Wednesday night, 19 July resulting in a fire engine being damaged.

The extent of the fire could not be ascertained, because the firefighters had to leave the scene.

There have been several incidents during which firefighters and their trucks had been thrown with stones.

GMM urged residents to refrain from attacking firefighters as they are placing lives and property at risk.
