Oksana and HTC offer free mentorship
“Some are raise by single parents, poverty, lack of support, alcohol abuse, noise and disturbance are just some of the issues they are faced with.”
Oksana Safety and Protection has partnered with the Holy Trinity Church to offer free mentorship and coaching to learners.
Classes will be offered every Saturday morning from 9am to 12pm at the Holy Trinity Church.
One of the people who will mentor learners, is Ms Julie Somiah, a BA graduate and a director of Oksana Safety and Protection.
Ms Somiah was a school educator for many years and understands the needs and requirements of learners.
She said the reason for taking part in a community project that focuses on the youth and education, is because her previous learners always said they lacked the time, space, resources and educational guidance at their homes.
Children will spend their Saturday mornings under the supervision of mentors and coaches who will assist them with their educational, and other needs that they may have as young and growing teenagers.
Bishop David Mkhize from the Holy Trinity Church said as a parent and a resident, he is also aware of the social situations that some kids find themselves in.
“Some are raised by single parents and live in poverty.
“Some have a lack of support and there are other things that have an affect on them, such as alcohol abuse, noise and disturbances.”
Mr Darly Somiah from Oksana Safety and Protection said his company will have their safety officers and a protection team stationed at appropriate spots to ensure the safety of the children when they go to and leave their classes on Saturdays.
Some of the benefits are a learning environment for children to complete their homework, mentoring and guidance in problem areas, working in groups, sharing ideas and improving their communication skills.
