Thousands of litres of clean water wasted in Kinross

The water pipe burnt when residents burned paper and plastic to prevent them from polluting the area.

Residents of Marikana and Ext 25 in Kinrosscontacted the newspaper regarding a burnt pipe which they have been trying to get the municipality to fix, but without any success.

The pipe was fixed by municipal workers previously, but was left exposed.

Residents are dumping their refuse on the same site, because the rubbish trucks apparently do not collect the refuse from Marikana.

The water pipe burnt by accident when residents burned paper and plastic to prevent pollution.

Clean water overflowing from the broken pipe have created a dam and residents are worried their children might try and swim in it.

Some said they phoned their ward councillor to inform her of the problem, but instead of going to check on it, she told them to send her a photo of the pipe.

Govan Mbeki Municipality was informed of the problem, but did not respond.
