Police urged mothers to stop protecting their boyfriends or husbands who rape their daughters.
This came after police noticed a high number of rape cases where the victims were raped by their stepfathers.
Const Cynthia Mstweni, police spokesman, said more often the cases are reported by other relatives because the mothers of the victims protect their partners.
She said two suspects were arrested recently for allegedly raping their stepdaughters.
“We urge mothers not to be blinded by love and sacrificing their children.
“When children are reporting the rapes to them, they must believe them and give them support.
“Even if they suspect it is untrue, it is the duty of the police to investigate matters.”
