A total of 197 illegal miners (Basotho nationals) between the ages of 16 and 68, were arrested around Evander, Embalenhle and Osizweni informal settlements from Friday, 29 July 2017 until yesterday.
During the arrest two unlicensed firearms, 150 pipes (30 aluminiun and 120 brass) suspected to have been stolen from the surrounding mines, 20 picks and 13 shovels were confiscated.
All the suspects were detained at Evander, Secunda and Embalenhle police stations.
They will appear at the Evander Magistrate’s Court today.
