eMBALENHLE – Govan Mbeki Municipality’s executive mayor is working round the clock to find permanent solutions for the sewer problems in the area.
Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, accompanied by Mr Anthony Makhaye, municipal management, councillors and the water and sanitation team
recently visited sewer hotspot areas.
The visit was aimed at seeing the extent of the crisis in the area and to diagnose possible solutions.
The public reacted when Govan Mbeki Municipality posted about the mayor’s visit on their Facebook page.
Mr Jaco Roets said: “Visibility only works for policemen, stop walking around looking at the problems and start fixing them.
“We know it costs money, but that is why we pay rates and taxes, it is not a tip, it is maintenance money.”
Ms Victoria Vivi Dlangamandla said: “Thanks madam, first step. Shows you care about the community. Next is to fix it.”
Mr Bheki Kubheka, head of marketing and branding, said Ms Maboa-Boltman instructed the department managers after the visit to develop a programme of action that would assist in eradicating the sewer crisis in the area.
