The five accused in the transit heist trial namely Messrs Thabo Mpheko, Obed Ninbe, Thulani Ngwenya, Themba Baloi and Johannes Shimamai appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court again on 24 August and the case was postponed to 17 November.
They were transported back to Pretoria where they face various other charges, but will remain in custody.
After the shootout occurred on the Bethal Road on 29 June, the suspects who presumably were connected to the heist, were arrested in Tembisa, Johannesburg later the same day.
According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, they were formally charged with armed robbery on 5 July.
The Standerton Advertiser reported extensively on the incident both on our webpage and the 7 July issue.
The shootout left two people wounded and two police officers were admitted to hospital.
