Premier calls for solutions to sewer problems in the area

Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, said the main contributor to this problem is the growing population and the infrastructure that cannot cope.

Mr David Mabuza called on institutions to stop their core projects in the area and to prioritise the sewer spillage problems.

Mr Mabuza was addressing a meeting held at the Govan Mbeki Municipal Council Chamber that was aimed at coming up with strategies and plans to resolve the huge health hazardous that sewer spillages pose and are affecting the larger part of the municipality.

A technical task team that will be led by the Mpumalanga provincial administration director general, Mr Thulani Mdakane, was formed to come up with urgent solutions.

Mr Mabuza also launched the Mpumalanga Enterprises Development Fund that will assist Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) with funding from Standard Bank and business support.

The funding comprises R300 million for construction and R500 million for agriculture.
