Residents and businesses in and around Evander, Winkelhaak and Osizweni Development Centre continue to be terrorised by people who steal anything they can get their hands on to sell.
Residents said they have realised that the people who are currently terrorising the areas by stealing cables and electric appliances are no longer only the Zama Zamas and they decided to name them as the “Rubbish”.
When asked why they named them the “Rubbish”, it was said it was because they are uncontrollable and most of the time they wait for the Zama Zamas to get their gold and the “Rubbish” go and look for the left overs.
When they do not get anything, they then lay their hands on anything just to get some cash to survive.
A reliable source who has been monitoring them very closely, said the Zama Zamas operate in a structured manner and have leaders, but the “Rubbish” do not have leaders and operate in more groups than the Zama Zamas.
Though they wear Sotho blankets, the “Rubbish” are said to be speaking fluent South African languages, but the Zama Zamas speaking Sotho.
Those who have businesses at Osizweni Development Centre also mentioned that the Zama Zamas did not attack them, but they will go and dig gold even during daylight without threatening anyone.
The “Rubbish” are apparently very dangerous people as they do not hesitate to shoot people and they mainly operate at night.
