Upon hearing about the struggles of a 77-year-old woman, Ms Anita Mkhwebane, a DA PR councillor visited the old woman to find out about her problems.
Ms Mkhwebane was shocked to discover that Ms Matsie Hlanga is living in difficult conditions and was without food.
She then donated groceries to the family.
Ms Hlanga is living with her family in a small shack in Extension 12.
She said she has lost count of how many times she has applied for an RDP house.
She said she was told that her house was approved in 2003, but it was never built.
“They even told me to dismantle my shack because I was going to move into my RDP house.
“I did so, but the house was never built.
“I have lost hope that I will ever have a house and I am concerned about what will happen to my grandchildren.
“What will happen to them when I die?”
Ms Mkhwebane contacted Govan Mbeki Municipality to investigate.
“It is sad to see an old woman struggling like this.
“The councillor must find out what happened to her house because it was apparently approved.
“I hope the Department of Human Settlement will treat this matter with urgency.”
