Although Govan Mbeki Municipality paid Eskom R51 million on Monday, 16 October and residents of Secunda, eMbalenhle, Bethal, Trichardt and eMzinoni do not have power cuts anymore, the DA said they will continue to open a criminal case against the acting municipal manager, Mr Thisha Mhlanga.
The DA is also organising a march on 3 November from the Lillian Ngoyi Centre to the municipality.
They still need to get the final authorisation for this march.
They will gather at the centre at 2pm, begin marching at 3pm and hand over a memorandum to the municipality at 4pm.
A case will also be opened after the march.
Ms Marietjie Fourie, DA councillor, said: “We will open a case in terms of the contravention of the Municipal Financial Management Act.
“According to the law, creditors must be paid within 30 days, if that is not done, it is a criminal offence.”
