A construction worker was hit by a vehicle on the corner of Marais Avenue and Chris Hani Street in Bethal last week.
According to Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesman of Bethal Police Station, he was warning motorists about the construction site when the driver of a white Toyota Quantam allegedly drove past the cones and over the victim.
The driver drove away.
The victim was admitted to Mediclinic Highveld for treatment.
A case of attempted murder was opened at Bethal Police and the police are investigating.
Const Mogadime said motorists need to respect workers on construction sites next to roads and adhere to their instructions to avoid unnecessary accidents.
“Taxi owners need to encourage their drivers or employees to respect pedestrians and construction workers.
“If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident with other vehicles or pedestrians, do not drive away as driving away from the scene without stopping after an accident is referred to as a hit and run and is a serious offense.”
