In another incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour.

The police said the girl was on her way to the shop when the 29-year-old man called her to his house and said he wanted her to bring him something from the shop.

However when the victim got into the house, the suspect grabbed her and tied her with a t-shirt.

He allegedly raped her throughout the night and released her the next day.

“It is alleged that the girl was afraid to go home and was found by a ward councillor who reported the rape to the police.

“The man was arrested and will appear in court soon.

“We have noted with contempt that criminals are targeting children.

“We work hard to ensure that all suspects are apprehended.”

Police called on locals to help them to deal with rape-related cases in the area.

They also appealed to parents to look after their children and to avoid sending them to shops alone after hours.
