DA Councillor, Ms Marietjie Fourie allege that the municipal refuse removal trucks have been dumping residents' waste illegally in an open field outside Bethal.

Bethal dumping site was closed due to non payment to the contractor.

Apparently the Govan Mbeki Municipality owed the contractor four payments.

The contractor was adamant that the site will remain closed until all payments are up-to-date.

According to DA Councillor, Ms Marietjie Fourie, there would be no refuse removal in Bethal until further notice.

This is due to security reasons at the dumping site.

Ms Fourie told the Ridge Times in a telephonic interview on Tuesday, 7 November that the service provider who has been contracted by the Govan Mbeki Municipality to manage the dumping site, has apparently not been paid for its services the last three months.

The service provider in return could therefore not pay its employees who notified him of a planned protest at the dumping site.

Ms Fourie also alleged that the municipal refuse removal trucks have been dumping residents’ waste illegally in an open field outside Bethal.
