The Govan Mbeki Municipality is finally removing refuse again in Secunda after four weeks of failing to do so.
During this time, residents made their own arrangements to get their refuse removed and used their own vehicles, while others charged R5 per bag to remove refuse.
According to Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, there were no refuse removal trucks available to service Secunda after one of the trucks were burnt in the protests regarding the electricity issue early in October.
Allegedly some of the trucks could not operate because they were not licensed yet.
Another refuse issue arose when the municipality failed to pay Interwaste, the contractor responsible for refuse at the dumping site, for three months.
