The Govan Mbeki Municipality Region 3 plans to launch a cleaning campaign which is aimed at eradicating illegal dump on street corners.

Locals began dumping refuse alongside the road and on street corners since the municipality had a collection backlog.

The reason for the backlog was because waste collection trucks were burned during a violent protest in October.

The council could not collect the waste for almost a month.
