The recent heavy rain has caused serious damage in Mandela Section.
Household appliances and furniture, such as wardrobes, sofas and beds, were damaged by water flowing into homes.
Locals said the wet weather is a constant reminder of their poverty and inadequate municipal infrastructure.
They said the water flows into houses because there are no storm water drains in the area.
Ms Thembi Nkosi, a resident, said: “We have lost count of how many times we have reported the issue to Govan Mbeki Municipality.
“The last time we were told there was nothing that could be done because our RDP houses were built in the flood line area. We are stuck with this problem and do not know what to anymore.”
Some residents have apparently left their homes to rent rooms in other sections.
People said the flooding causes conflict between neighbours, because some dig trenches in their yards which direct the water flow to their neighbours.
Some roads cannot be used because of the water and the mud.
Big potholes have also appeared on most roads in eMbalenhle.
Govan Mbeki Municipality did not comment.
