The provincial police, Liquor Association and Lekwa Liquor Traders held a consultative meeting at the Stanwest Hall on 12 December.
The parties discussed liquor traders who do not abide to trading hours and traders who operate without licences with the aim of ensuring better working relations between the police and traders.
According to Maj-Gen Pearl de Beer, most social ills in communities are closely related to alcohol if not the main cause.
“Our aim is not to shut down your businesses, but to ensure you operate within the law,” Maj-Gen De Beer said.
“Traders must trade responsibly and drinkers must also drink responsibly.”
She also issued a warning to liquor shop owners who offer bribes and police members who accept bribes.
