Refuse in Secunda CBD piles up

Govan Mbeki Municipal manager fails to comment.

Refuse in certain areas of the CBD is piling up and has not been removed for several weeks.

Shop owners are complaining that it looks ugly and is a health risk.

The newspaper contacted the municipal manager of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr BM Mhlanga, for comment, but he did not reply at time of going to press.

According to Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA councillor, there are currently only two refuse removal trucks available for household refuse removal and only one for business areas.

“The municipality went back to their former schedules and are now removing the refuse on the days and times they used to.”
