Evander Police officer faces criminal charges of defeating the hands of justice

An Evander Police officer faces criminal charges after ignoring the court's instructions and releasing a suspect from custody.

Mr Thasaigan Naidoo, a police officer from Evander Police Station, is out on bail for defeating the hands of justice.

It is alleged Mr Naidoo released a suspect illegally in December.

The suspect was arrested for theft and appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court.

He was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.

It is alleged that Mr Naidoo ignored the court’s instructions and released the suspect on a warning.

Mr Naidoo will appear in court on 18 January.
