Raw sewage flows into house in eMbalenhle

The owner of the house is worried about the health of his family. His children have been coughing and struggling with runny tummies.

Raw sewage has been flowing into Mr Petrous Thekiso’s house in Extension 22 for the past five months.

The manhole opposite his gate is blocked and filled with soil and plastic.

The sewage from the backyard toilet has formed a little dam near the kitchen and Mr Thekiso was forced to move the kitchen to another room.

Mr Thekiso has lost count of how many times he has reported the matter to Govan Mbeki Municipality.

He was told recently that the municipality did not have the tools to fix the pipes because the community burned them.

Govan Mbeki Municipality did not comment about Mr Thekiso’s problems, however the acting municipal manager, Mr Thisha Mhlanga, told the newspaper that the municipality is working round the clock to solve the sewer crisis in eMbalenhle.
