An elderly woman was conned out of her bank card on Saturday morning, 20 January.
According to Col Kawa Karelse from the Secunda Police Station, the 57-year-old woman was struggling to withdraw money from the Capitec Bank ATM in the Secunda Mall.
She accepted the help of a stranger who walked her through the transaction and eventually assisted her in removing her bank card.
The stranger returned a bank card to her, but the woman only realised later that it was not her card.
By the time she reported it, an undisclosed amount of money had already been withdrawn from her account.
Col Karelse warned residents, especially the aged, to be alert at ATMs.
“If you do not know how to operate the machine, rather go inside the bank and ask for assistance. Do not accept help from random strangers.”
