Opposition believes financial report tabled by executive mayor misleads Council and public

“This financial inaccuracy means the council will fail again to deliver adequate services to the people of Govan Mbeki Municipality.”

The Democratic Alliance believes the financial report tabled by the executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, is misleading Council and the public.

Ms Maboa-Boltman tabled the financial report on Tuesday, 30 January during a council meeting.

She admitted the report was inaccurate and and blamed it on the service provider that was appointed to migrate the council from the old financial system to the new Municipal Standard Chart of Accounts (MSCOA).

The executive mayor urged that the report is being sent to National Treasury so they can see that the service provider that they recommended, has failed Council.

The DA attempted to argue that the report could not be accepted and should be referred back to portfolio committees to produce and present to the council accurate documentation that reflects transparency about the financial state of the municipality.

However, the ANC used their majority vote to accept the report.
