The Kinross Ratepayers’ Association and community members were given a platform to voice their concerns over the state of the town at a meeting held at Kinross Sasol Club on Thursday, 8 February.
Kinross and Thistle Grove ward councillors were present, as well as the Govan Mbeki Municipal executive mayor, Ms Flora Maboa-Blotman.
Mr Dan Nlapho, councillor, headed the meeting.
Mr Donovan Frederics, chairman of the Kinross Ratepayers’ Association, was the first to address the councillors on behalf of the community.
He highlighted pressing issues, as well as Govan Mbeki Municipal officials who ill-treats resideents.
Mr Frederics spoke about the poor communication channels between the municipality and the community.
He said people only heard about the meeting by chance.
“If we did not hear about this meeting, none of us would have attended it, ”said Mr Frederics.
He said there were several attempts to hold meetings with Mr Ben Makola, Ms Irene Masuku and Ms Rose Nkabinde (councillors).
The community of Kinross is not happy and are fed up with the way in which the municipality is serving them.
Mr Frederics also spoke about the water crisis.
“There were times when we had no water for days.
“The municipal call centre was unable to assist and employees said people should buy Jojo tanks, because there were no water tanks available.

“This town has deteriorated into a ghost town.
“It seems the mayor is living in a dream and needs to come back to reality.”
Residents said they have a right to know where the money paid for services is going to.
They wanted answers as to how these issues will be solved and when.
Another meeting is expected to held soon to discuss solutions to the burning issues.
