The community of eMbalenhle will benefit from the new school hall presented to KI Twala Secondary School by the Southern Highveld Community Development Trust
The SCHDT makes a huge impact on the community of eMbalenhle
eMBALENHLE – The Southern Highveld Community Development Trust (SHCDT), sponsored by Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club, gave back to the community of eMbalenhle.
The SHCDT donated and opened the KI Twala Secondary School hall on Monday, 5 March.
It cost R1,5 million and will be used to accommodate learners during examinations and school events.
“KI Twala Secondary School was selected because it was the top performing school in the area. We want to assist schools with a record of excellent academic performances.
“In this way we can be assured that the hall will be used effectively to assist the personnel and learners.
“The building will also uplift the morale of educators and inspire even better results,” said Mr Josiah Mlangeni, chairman of the trust.
The trust has been a long time contributor to change in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area and sponsors several programmes, including full scholarships at a university for a wide variety of courses for 22 learners, in among others engineering, finance, medicine and hospitality.
An internship programme assists students from the local TVET College to complete the practical side of their qualifications for 18 months.
Currently 15 young people in the programme work at Graceland.
The trustees hope KI Twala Secondary School will continue to offer quality education.
During her speech, Ms Nonthuthuzelo Twala, KI Twala Seconday School representative, said the hall will also benefit the eMbalenhle community at large, because the venue will be hired out to churches and community members who want to host functions.
The funds generated will be used to upgrade school facilities and the science lab and computer room.
