SECUNDA – Power supply to the entire light industrial area in the Secunda Police Station area was off for nearly a week.
The problem originated from a faulty main power cable at Tower City that had to be rerouted around the complex. This resulted in the area having to cope without electricity for several days while a new cable could be brought from Sasolburg and be installed.
Sasol’s Ikusasa initiative was involved in helping the Govan Mbeki Municipality obtain the cable and local contractors helped to dig a trench for the cable.
Ms Ena van Rooyen, DA councillor, and Ms Aranda Nel-Buitendag, FF+ councillor, were also keeping an eye on the progress of the cable installation.
The lack of electricity supply affected all operations in that area.

The municipality’s call centre was not operational, the testing station was off line, the police grinded to a halt and even a local funeral parlour was complaining bitterly.
The police station was in darkness last Wednesday and no cases could receive attention because of the computers being down.
Rain and cold weather hampered the work, but the cable was eventually repaired by Friday morning, 18 May.
