Five robbery suspects were arrested on Friday, 1 June.
This came after Leandra Police received a complaint that there were suspicious vehicles parked at Pick n Pay.
Police went to the scene and saw two vehicles, a red Run-X and a white Avanza, parked on the corners of the road.
Capt Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said officers drove to the back entrance of Pick n Pay where they noticed a Hyundai Accent and a white, Corolla which drove off immediately when they saw the police.
“Police were told that the suspects robbed the shop and took an undisclosed amount of money.
“While police were chasing after the two vehicles, the RunX and the Avanza took off as well.
“The police managed to stop the white Avanza.
The RunX was spotted in eMbalenhle.
“The vehicle was cornered in the area and the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot towards a veld.”
Police managed to arrest 5 suspects, (3 from the RunX and 2 from the Avanza). During the arrest, an AK47 rifle was recovered with 45 live rounds of ammunition.
The Hyundai Accent and Corolla Professional have not yet been found.
It is believed that the money that was robbed at Pick n Pay is in one of the missing vehicles.
