The executive mayor of the Gert Sibande District Municipality, Mr Muzi Chirwa, announced on 24 May, during the state of the district address, the closing of the Morgenzon dumpsite.
“We would like to commend the mayor on the speed in which he has implemented it,” Mr Muso Kubheka of the DA said.

According to the DA, they will continue to monitor the progress of the site and request an alternative for the people of Morgenzon.
