Thick Queens bring own range to the ramp
Thick Queens will begin with auditions in August for their summer collection.
SECUNDA – Plus-size models were greeted with whistling and cheering from the crowd as they scaled the catwalk at the Thick Queens Plus-Size Fashion Display on Saturday, 2 June.
This annual event on the local fashion calendar was hosted at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre by Mr Nicholas Mashiane, founder of Thick Queens, and gave local talented designers the chance to showcase their work.
These designers included Mr Bongani Tez whose mother inspired him to create fashion attire with beads, and Nokwakha, a housewife who was inspired by large women and sport.
Other designer labels were Kel More, M2G, Heaven Couture and Thick Queens’ own range.
There was also a display of Sangfroid’s lingerie and swimwear for plus-size women.
Visitors were treated to a live performance by Chilla Flamez and dance items by AM Crew and Simphiwe and Mbali Dance Duo.
Mr Mashiane thanked Bogart and Fantasy Bridal Show for their support, as well as the media, the designers, the models, the presenters and the public.
“Thick Queens will host auditions for their summer collection in August,” he said.
