Sasol Mining continues with housing project in eMbalenhle and Secunda
Sasol employees receive keys to new houses in Extension 24 in Secunda.
SECUNDA – Sasol Mining handed over brand-new houses to 20 new home owners of Ext 24 in Secunda on Thursday, 31 May.
This forms part of Sasol’s housing project and it was done in partnership with a national bank and the Department of Human Settlements.

It was Sasol Mining’s seventh handing over of houses in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area and brings the total number of houses handed over in eMbalenhle to 101 and to 39 in Secunda.
“Sasol Mining recognises the importance of decent housing for its employees,” said Mr Lucky Kgatle, senior vice president of Sasol Mining.
“These are homes of an adequate size that have the essential basic infrastructures such as water, sanitation and electricity.”
The provision of housing to Sasol Mining employees is a continuous process that is also in accordance with the social and labour plan of the mining charter.
“Sasol Mining has embarked on a housing project with the objective of promoting good health and welfare for its employees,” said Mr Kgatle.
“This was done to ensure sustainable local economic development and to promote home ownership among Sasol employees within the formal housing sector.
“It is not only about housing, but also about owning a home.
“We want to leave a positive legacy in the communities that we operate in and we want to leave it better than when we found it.
“It is a privilege and an honour to own a house.
“You should be proud of your investment and also know that owning a house, comes with responsibilities.”
The executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Ms Thandi Ngxonono, also attended the event and said the municipality made the land available for Sasol to build the houses on.
“It is good to own your own house at a young age and you must take responsibility of it,” said Ms Ngxonono.
“Develop your new house and make it a home.
“When the municipality offered this piece of land to be developed further, that is service delivery.
“Be responsible and pay your rates and taxes so that the municipality can pay Eskom.
“Our billing system is now accurate, so you will be billed accurately.
“This programme by Sasol Mining was recognised by Government as the best financial programme.”
The new home owners each received the keys to their new houses and enjoyed refreshments.
