Learners from various schools spent time with professionals
Nimrod Nkosi (television presenter) told learners that nothing comes easy in life and encouraged them to focus on their studies.
eMBALENHLE – Forgy Mokalapa Events hosted the second annual Ligotshwa Lisemanzi Career Awareness and Mentorship Programme on Saturday, 16 June at the Baptised Church in Extension 4.
The event was aimed at exposing learners to the various careers that are available and providing information about where they can study and apply for funding.
Speakers and professionals from various fields encouraged and shared information with learners about their different careers and their day-to-day routines at their workplaces.
Among the speakers was Mr Nimrod Nkosi, a television presenter and actor best known for hosting the youth variety show “Jam Alley” and the reality show “Utatakho” on Mzansi Magic.
He attributed his success to always being prepared for what is expected of him during auditions and when carrying out his duties.
“The truth is, it is not what happens that determines the outcome of our lives, it is our actions against what happens that determine how our lives turn out.
“This is your time. Do not allow anything to stand in your way.
“Life is not easy, but be strong and do everything in your power to succeed.”
Ms Yoliswa Velebayi Thantsha, a regulatory affairs pharmacist, and businesswoman spoke about her career and encouraged learners to pursue a career in this field.
She spoke about the challenges that professionals face in this field, especially about the medication that is provided to patients and of avoiding mistakes of providing the wrong medication that could have dire consequences.
Mr Siyabonga Mazibuko, Ms Prudence Ncukuba, Ms Ntombi Mbele, Mr Tumelo Sibanda, Mr Ntokozo Mwelase and Mr Harmony Nkosikho Mkehle were among the speakers who positively impacted the learners.
Learners received material from Gert Sibande District TVET College and KPMG that sponsored this event.
Forgy Mokalapa commended the speakers and the master of ceremonies for responding to her invitation.
“I am grateful that this event is growing and I am calling on learners to attend this event in the future.
“It will be taking place annually on the same date and entrance is free.”
