Mayor apologises for electricity problems in eMbalenhle

She thanked the residents for their patience and restraint during this crisis

eMBALENHLE – Ms Thandi Ngxonono, executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, has expressed her apology to the residents of eMbalenhle for the recent electricity crisis.

In a press statement issued on Monday, 8 October at about 2.15 pm, Ms Ngxonono said:

“I would like to express my sincere apologies to the residents of eMbalenhle for the electricity outage that affected the area from 3 to 7 October.

“A fire broke out at a portion of the substation on Wednesday afternoon, causing the power interruption.

“The outage had caused frustration and anger to residents.

“Our technicians and the appointed contractor did everything they could to ensure electricity was restored. The outage was caused by overloading.

“We appreciate the fact that the community exercised patience and restraint during this difficult period.

“The municipality is taking steps to secure a long lasting solution to the electricity problem in the area.

“We further appeal to residents to work hand in hand with the municipality and stop the problem of electricity theft and bridging.”
