Electricity interruptions expected for GMM

Eskom is planning to enforce electricity cuts in the Govan Mbeki Municipality, mainly affecting Secunda, Bethal, eMzinoni and eMbalenhle.

Govan Mbeki Municipality has been identified as one of eight municipalities in the country who has defaulted in their payments towards #Eskom.

Eskom is planning to enforce electricity cuts in the Govan Mbeki Municipality, mainly affecting Secunda, Bethal, eMzinoni and eMbalenhle.

The date given for the outage is 26 November and while this date is subject to change, the public and businesses are encouraged to make the necessary preparations.

It is noted by Eskom that the only way to stop the power outages from happening, is if the municipalities affected make the payments due.

This is the last resort that follows the Promotion of Administration Act (PAJA) process that Eskom has to follow before the electricity outage stage is enforced.

It is no secret that GMM face a hefty debt amount of R1 billion, however, Eskom has stated that they have given them numerous opportunities to rectify the inevitable electricity cuts.
