GMM residents again face electricity cuts due to non-payments

If the municipality does not find a solution by 10 December, the electricity will be off daily from 6am to 8pm.

Govan Mbeki Municipality residents are once again facing electricity cuts due to the non-payment of the municipality.

Eskom has this week again given notice that as of 26 November, electricity cuts will be implemented.

This is because Govan Mbeki Municipality has failed to honour the repayment plan to Eskom as agreed upon on 21 September.

That agreement was followed by a meeting on 8 October in Nelspruit.

During the first week of the cuts, residents can expect outages from 6am to 8am and over peak times from 5pm to 7.30pm at night.

The second week (3 to 9 December), residents will have no electricity from 6am to 9am and again from 7pm to 8.30pm.

The power will be out from 8.30am to 12am and from 3pm to 7pm over the weekend.

If the municipality does not find a solution by 10 December, the electricity will be off daily from 6am to 8pm.

This will continue until the breach of payment has been remedied.

The towns that will be affected are Secunda, eMbalenhle, Bethal and eMzinoni.
