Open electricity boxes in residential areas leave local parents concerned

Municipality fails to put make electricity boxes tamper-free

SECUNDA – Open electricity boxes and cables in the residential area are a huge concern to parents.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA councillor, reported numerous open electricity boxes and cables in Secunda, Trichardt and Evander to the municipality.

“Only the worker who reads the meters, is supposed to have a key,” said Ms Chamberlain.

“The municipality will have to do something drastic to solve this problem.”

“It is a danger to children,” said a resident.

Open electricity cables in Evander pose a danger to children.

According to Ms Chamberlain, electricity boxes are supposed to be locked.

The municipality did begin the process of placing locks on all the boxes, but some of them have been tampered with or broken open once again.

The Ridge Times asked Mr Benzi Soko, Chief of Staff at Govan Mbeki Municipality for comment on the issue, but he did not reply at the time of going to press.
