UPDATE [16:50] Rand Water issued a statement that Govan Mbeki Municipality paid an amount today and they will increase water supply with 20 per cent.
Rand Water’s Media Relations Manager, Mr Justice Mohale, said this does not absolve the municipality from its financial obligations to pay their bill on 31 January and if they fail to pay, Rand Water will throttle the water again.
UPDATE [16:30] According to Ms Marietjie Fourie the municipal plumber confirmed that water is flowing into the reservoir in Bethal.
[15:40] Govan Mbeki Municipality managed to pay Rand Water an agreed amount and the water supplier will increase water supply from 60 per cent to 80 per cent.
Ms Marietjie Fourie, DA Councillor, reminded residents that it takes about 48 hours for the system to be filled up and to supply water to everyone at full pressure.
“This is an estimation, it could take longer as many JoJo’s tanks have been installed and need to fill up as well,” said Ms Fourie.
“We will continue with our plans to support the community until everyone has water in their taps.
“As I do not have the terms of the agreement yet, I cannot answer questions on that regard.”
