An apparent false message is being circulated on WhatsApp, warning residents not to drink tap water.
It claims that the municipality sent out an alert to inform residents something fell into the water and to keep children away from taps.
The Afrikaans message ends by stating: ‘If you have a heart for people, forward this message to others.’
Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, said earlier today that she had a meeting with the Department of Water and Sanitation at Govan Mbeki Municipality and the manager of the department knows nothing about such a message.
No one in their department sent it.
Ms Chamberlain urged residents not to spread false information.
