SECUNDA – Households in a large section of Secunda experienced dry taps or very low water pressure since Thursday, 4 May.
A burst pipe near the Kruik Centre was the cause of everyone’s frustration.
The leak was at an obscured location and had it not been for the wakeful eye of Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, thaps might have been dried up for even longer.
She attended a function at Lake Umuzi on Saturday, 4 May, and noticed that the outflow of water from the waterfront was too strong.
The Govan Mbeki municipal work team traced the water from there until they found a the burst pipe in PDP Kruger Street.
“With the excavations the burst pipe was removed on Sunday.
However the water that was still in the pipe started flowing back into the excavated area”, explained Ms Chamberlain.
“The pump got stuck and the team could not empty the hole.”
Ms Chamberlain said another pump had to be borrowed from Evander.
The workers were still repairing the pipe at time of going to press on Monday morning.
