Mayor Ngxonono talks to stakeholders

Ms Thandi Ngxonono will continue engaging various stakeholder in the area.

SECUNDA – The executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Ms Thandi Ngxonono, continued with her ongoing stakeholders engagement programme.

She recently met with the business forums and the leaders of the Bethal Taxi Association and Vukanini Taxi Association.

She also met other stakeholders such as religious and traditional leaders.

The stakeholders engagement programme is intended to revive the stakeholder engagement within the municipality.

Mr Benzi Soko, municipal spokesman, said Ms Ngxonono is aiming at building strong relationships with all the stakeholders in the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

“The mayor believes that if all stakeholders are involved in the affairs of the municipality, many problems can be solved easily.

“She wants stakeholders to play a pivotal role in the municipality.”

He said the engagements are yielding positive results as they are getting a chance to hear the grievances and concerns of the various stakeholders.

The taxi industry complained about bad roads in the area and urged the municipality to prioritise the fixing of the roads.

The religious leaders raised their concerns about land in order to have a place to build their churches.

The business forums complained about a politician being involved with tenders and voiced that they are unhappy with businesses not in the Govan Mbeki Municipality, being awarded tenders.

Ms Ngxonono called on the business forums to organise themselves and unite as there are many forums in the area.

She raised concerns about municipal property being damaged and described it a sabotage to her term of office.

“We calling on you to unite and form one community which represents all of you.

“We vow as the municipality that we will not be biased and that we will treat all forums the same.

“We will soon announce the date of the Indaba during which we will speak broadly about the local economy.”

She was joined by the members of the mayoral committee and the municipal management.
