Illegal dumping sites spread in eMbalenhle

Concerned residents said the Municipality should not be blamed for the illegal dumping sites

HIGHVELD – It is becoming a common practice for the residents of eMbalenhle to dump waste everywhere.

Locals often dump old household items, construction waste and other waste at non-designated dumping sites.

This trend is on the rise and will soon cause health hazards to the residents.

Some disgruntled residents have raised their concerns and called on illegal dumpers to take responsibility for their actions.

Mr Thabo Moloi, eMba resident, said: “Our people must know that it is illegal to dump their refuse everywhere.

“This will end up affecting our children.

“eMbalenhle has a legal dumping site in almost every section.

“We cannot blame the municipality since we are not taking responsibility.

“The municipality must implement bylaws within the sections that have illegal dumping sites.”

Some motorists complained about the unbearable stench on the Bracken Road between Evander and eMbalenhle due to the illegal dumping site near Brendan Village that is becoming bigger as residents are seen dumping refuse in the area daily.
