Govan Mbeki Municipality fix water leak in Secunda after eight months

Municipality allegedly had to wait for a special part that had to be manufactured

SECUNDA – A water leak in Piketberg Street in Secunda has finally been fixed after eight months.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, has been in constant contact with the municipality regarding the leak that began in October last year.

The municipality repaired it in January, but it soon began leaking again.

Water streamed down the road in Piketberg Street for three months.

According to Ms Chamberlain, the municipality had to have a special part made in order to fix the leak. This took a long time to manufacture.

“When the part finally arrived, the TLB that they needed had a flat tyre,” said Ms Chamberlain.

When the flat tyre was repaired, the TLB was needed in Kinross and could only be used in Secunda on Wednesday, 26 June.

The leak was finally fixed on Friday, 28 June.

Ridge Times asked the Chief of Staff of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr Benzi Soko for comment on Friday, 28 June, but he did not respond at the time of going to print.
