Residents of Morgenzon are carefully optimistic about the recent maintenance to the roads in town.
Mr Corné van Dijk, business owner in Morgenzon, said: “It looks very neat, but it is a very thin layer of tar.”
Although some of the residents did not think that it will last, they are surprised that the road is still in a good condition almost two months after the completion of the intersection.
According to Ms Bongi Ka Dube, spokesman of Gert Sibande District Municipality, the project was completed on 20 May.
She added that the road in question is a provincial road and that Gert Sibande District Municipality was assisting in the interim in order for the road to be usable, while the province finalises the designs for the main scope.
“The district engaged with the province on numerous occasions regarding the condition of the road, hence the decision to only attend to the intersections.”
According to her, the district used the process of recycling the existing material to fix the road.
“The latest update the district received from the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport was that the department was finalising the designs.”
Enquiries were sent to the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport about a permanent solution for the roads in Morgenzon.
No response was received at the time of going to press.
