SECUNDA – The organisation, AfriForum, handed over another lawyer’s letter to the municipality on Tuesday, 5 November.
This came after AfriForum handed over a memorandum and a lawyer’s letter to Govan Mbeki Municipality early in October and gave the municipality 14 days to respond.
Until today, AfriForum has not received response from Govan Mbeki Municipality.
The municipality also failed to answer questions the Ridge Times sent to them regarding the lawyer’s letters and memorandum.
The letter stated that AfriForum is aware of the notice Eskom sent to the municipal manager to warn the entity of their intention to suspend the supply of electricity to Govan Mbeki Municipality because of the municipality’s failure to pay their electricity account.
According to the latest AfriForum letter, Eskom never gave the community any notice of the termination and neither did the community have a chance to object to the termination.
The only correspondence was between Eskom and Govan Mbeki Municipality.
The lawyer further requested a consultation process with Govan Mbeki Municipality and Eskom and stated that AfriForum wants to be part of this consultation process.
AfriForum has the right to approach a court for a necessary order should Eskom proceeds with the discontinuation of the electricity supply.
