Sewage leaks for four weeks in Secunda

Municipality fails to fix sewage leak

SECUNDA – A sewage leak on the corner of Tugela and Umfolozi Street in Secunda left residents with their hands in their hair.

Sewage has been leaking from a manhole just outside a yard on the corner of two streets for four weeks now.

The resident reported it more than once, as well as DA Councillors, Mr Tim Denny and Ms Mariaan Chamberlain.

“We cannot stand the stench anymore. It is unhygienic and lures flies to our yard,” said a resident.

“When I contacted the municipality, they just said yes, they will come, but then nothing happened,” said Mr Denny.

The Ridge Times asked the communications department of Govan Mbeki Municipality for comment on Monday, 20 January and they said the leakage was fixed.
