SECUNDA – After a fire caused massive damage to the main substation in Secunda that left parts of the town in a two-day blackout recently, the Govan Mbeki Municipality has to do repair and maintenance work on affected power cables.

GMM issued a notice of when and power will be interrupted for this work:
• Wednesday, 29 January from 8pm to Thursday, 30 January 5am.
• Monday, 10 February from 8pm to Tuesday, 11 February 5am.
• Tuesday, 18 February from 8pm to Wednesday, 19 February at midnight.

The following areas will be affected:
• Trichardt

• Ext 23
• Ext 22
• Sunset Park
• Sasol Junction Garage
• Secunda Mall
• Secunda CBD

The power interruption is necessary to install new systems in the main substation in Secunda.

As the supply maybe restored at anytime, residents are urged to treat their electricity supply points as live at all times.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA councillor, said the planned upgrade for ringsub 6 will still commence tonight.

“Power will be switched off around 8pm until the upgrade is done.” Areas affected by RSB 6 include part of Tugela, Umfolozi, Generaal de Wet, Maroela and Kareeboom streets, the Palms centre and surrounding areas.

RSB 7 will not be affected.
